Tucked away amongst Mediterranean gardens in the peaceful residence named Country Bagaglino near Stintino lies Villa La Vela – a charming holiday villa whose dusky pink façade nestles beneath a traditional Sardinian tiled roof, blending seamlessly into the rolling coastal landscape of the north-west. With two bedrooms and a sofa bed, accommodating up to six people in total, the villa is ideal for families – and thanks to the dog-friendly garden, it is also one of the rare options for holidaymakers wishing to bring their four-legged friends to the island.

Sardinian tradition beneath open wooden beamed ceilings

Villa La Vela offers a clear, single-storey layout across approximately 85 square metres of living space. At the heart of the house lies the light-filled living area with a high, open wooden beamed ceiling – a traditional element of Sardinian architecture that lends the interior a warm, relaxed atmosphere. A large dining table for six, a comfortable sofa (which can be converted into an extra bed for two if required) and lovingly framed pictures with maritime motifs characterise the room. A wide sliding glass door opens the living area directly onto the veranda – there is hardly a more beautiful invitation to enjoy a meal together under the Sardinian starry sky.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas hob, oven, large fridge and dishwasher. The villa’s sleeping area comprises two bedrooms: one with a double bed and direct access to the garden – a lovely way to start the day when you open the sliding door in the morning and step barefoot onto the lawn – and the other with two single beds. The spacious bathroom is fitted with a large shower-bath.

Air conditioning in both bedrooms ensures a restful night’s sleep. In the living area, the high wooden beamed ceiling naturally keeps the heat out; during the day, the covered veranda with its arched windows, terracotta-coloured floor and comfortable wicker armchairs offers a shaded retreat with a view of the sea. A brick-built barbecue in the garden invites you to enjoy long evenings outdoors, the private pool is surrounded by a lawn in the garden, and there is secure parking for your car on the property. Wi-Fi, a TV and a washing machine are provided.

La Pelosa, Asinara and the charm of Stintino

Villa La Vela is situated approximately 3.4 kilometres from Le Saline beach, in a quiet residential area not far from the small coastal town of Stintino. La Pelosa is just a 15-minute drive away – with its fine, almost powdery sand, gently sloping turquoise waters and views of the old Aragonese watchtower, this beach is one of the most beautiful in the entire Mediterranean.

The town of Stintino itself, once a fishing village with a tradition of tuna fishing, is just a few minutes’ drive away and, with its colourful houses and picturesque harbour, offers everything you need for a relaxing holiday: well-stocked supermarkets, a bakery with fresh Pane Carasau, traditional trattorias serving freshly caught fish, and bars where you can watch the sunset over a glass of Vermentino in the evening.

An absolute highlight of the region is the offshore Isola Asinara National Park – once cut off from the outside world as a prison island, today a fascinating nature reserve that can be reached by boat from Stintino and is home, among other things, to the island’s famous white donkeys. Further afield, the medieval old town of Alghero with its Catalan roots (around 50 minutes’ drive), the spectacular cliffs of Capo Caccia with the stalactite caves of the Grotta di Nettuno, and the unspoilt pine forests around Porto Torres – whose ferry port can be reached in about 30 minutes – await.
